Obituary for Ida E. Carey (Thompson)


Ida E. Carey, 79, of Freeport died on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012, at her home.
Ida was born on Dec. 2, 1932, in Freeport, the daughter of George and Hazel (Kosier) Thompson. Ida married John J. Carey on March 31, 1951. Mr. Carey died on March 7, 1995.
Ida worked for Burgess Battery and Micro Switch, retiring on Dec. 30, 1988. Ida enjoyed bowling and spending time with her friends and family. Her grandchildren were very special to her.
Survivors include two sons, Daniel (Nancy) Carey and Colin (Dianna) Carey, both of Freeport; daughter, Elizabeth (Terry) Cabot of Markesan, Wis.; sister, Genevive Potter of Freeport; and four brothers, Donald (Betty) Thompson of Rockford, Calvin “Manny” (Barbara) Thompson, Preston (Nancy) Thompson, and Richard (Mary) Thompson, all of Freeport. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, John Carey, Kenny (Jen) Carey, Nick Carey, Danna (Brandon) Smith, Mike Carey, Jason Carey, Elizabeth Carey, and Todd Cabot; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Ida was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and son, Patrick M. Carey.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 12, at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at Burke-Tubbs. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery.
