Obituary for Elsie L. Kunz (Kuehl)

Elsie L. Kunz, 89, of Freeport, died Wednesday, October 29, 2014, at Oakley Courts Assisted Living Center in Freeport. She was born April 5, 1925, in Selby, SC, the daughter of August ans Sophie (Wandmacher) Kuehl. She married Melvin Kunz on November 2, 1948 in Clear Lake, SD; he died on December 2, 2008. Elsie was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. She enjoyed playing cards, singing, bowling, and following the Chicago Cubs and Bears. Family was a very important part of her life. Elsie is survived by h4er town sons, Joel (Diane) Kunz of Freeport, IL and Brian (Beverly) Kunz of Huntley, IL; her daughter, Michele (Gerry) Swanson of Geneva, IL; four sisters, Dorothy Kolasch of Evansville, WI, Adela Burk of Prescott, AZ, Esther (Wayne) Schlichting-Wand of Elizabeth, IL and Shirley (Keith) Sincox of Apple River, IL; her brother, Dean Kuehl of Stockton, IL; her sister-in-law, Doreene Kuehol of Lena, IL; her grandchildren,m Shane Kunz, Derek Kunz, Jessica Kunz, Jeffrey Kunz, Erian (Brandon) Roark, and Michael Swanson; her great-granddaughter, Hannah; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brothers, Dietrich "Dick" Kuehl, Walker Kuehl, Otto Kuehl; her sister, Mina Gotham; her brother-in-law, Norman Kolasch, Milton Burk, and John Schlichting; and her sisters-in-law, Ada Kuehl, Jan Kuehl, and Hulda Kuehl. The family would like to thank the staff of Oakey Courts for treating Elsie like a queen. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 3, 2014, at Immanual Lutheran Church in Freeport, with Pastor Richard "Ros) Schultz and Rev. Dr. Willis Schwichterberg officiating. Visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Burke-Tubbs Funeral home in Freeport. Burial of cremains will take place at Oakland Cemetery and Mausoleum
