David J. Mans, 75, of Freeport, died Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at his home. Born December 5, 1938, in Freeport, the son of William and Josephine (Gaulrapp) Manns. David worked at Fullerton Lumber Co. He also worked as a janitor at the Freeport Jr. High and the Masonic Temple. He married Linda Pfeiffer on June 25, 1966, in Freeport; she died November 11, 2012. David was in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. David enjoyed bowling, fishing, horseshoes, and following the Bears and Cubs. Survivors include his son, Michael (Melissa Ditsworth) Manns of Freeport; one brother, Bill (Sandy) Manns; grandson, Joshua Manns; step grandson, Dominik Rossi; step granddaughters, Jessica Aliu, Mellisa Rucker and Nicole Heyen; great-grandchildren, Tina Rucker, Jessica Rucker and Ambri Borgmann. David was preceded in death by his parents and wife. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. at S. Mary's Catholic Church. Father Timothy Barr will officiate. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Burke-Tubbs. Entombment will be at Oakland Cemetery. A memorial has been established in his memory.
