JAMES G. FRY, 93 FREEPORT - James G. Fry, 93, of Freeport died Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at FHN Memorial Hospital in Freeport. Born May 2, 1920, in Cedar Rapids, IA; he was the son of John and Katherine (Duncan) Fry. He was a graduate of Marion High School in Marion, IA, Cedar Rapids Business College, and University of Iowa Department of Agriculture and Engineering. On February 2, 1980, he and Vera Knodle were united in marriage, she preceded him in death. Jim managed the Prince Ice-cream Castle in Dixon for 15 years and Lang Ice-Cream Company in Tampa, FL for 18 years. He was a veteran of the United States Army from 1942 to 1946. He was a member of St. John United Church of Christ and the Golden Agers group at church, and enjoyed playing on different bowling leagues in Freeport. Surviving are a daughter-in-law, Linda Fry and grandson, Alan R. Fry, both of Elgin. Preceding him in death were his parents; wife; son, Robert; two brothers; and two sisters. Funeral Service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, May 18, 2013, at Walker Mortuary. Burial will be at the Oakland Cemetery and Mausoleum in Freeport.
