Karen R. Thompson, 57, of Freeport died on Thursday, Aug. 30, 2012.
Born on Oct. 31, 1954, in Freeport, she was the daughter of Arnold and Harriett (Knight) O’Neill.
Karen was dedicated to helping people with special needs. She worked at St. Francis School for Exceptional Children for 17 years and for the past 12 years at Ridge Terrace.
Surviving are her mother, Harriett O’Neill; her son, Nathan Thompson, both of Freeport; two sisters, Linda (Dale) Feltmeyer of Harrison, Ark., and Connie Rhea of Freeport; her brother, Larry (Trudi) O’Neill of Freeport; and one grandson, Zachary Arachikavitz of Freeport.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Private family only services will be held.
A memorial fund has been established.
