Ilene Potter, 76, of Freeport passed away on Thursday, Jan. 26, 2012, at FHN Memorial Hospital.
She was born on Feb. 7, 1935, in Wellman, Iowa, to Melvin and Mary Swartzendruber. She married Merle Potter on Sept. 24, 1955, in Shannon.
She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene and volunteered at FACC. She loved watching her grandchildren’s sporting events, musical concerts, as well as babysitting for her great-grandson. She enjoyed traveling with good friends, her sewing club, and the Forreston Seniors Group.
She is survived by her son, Brian (Gretchen) Potter of Freeport; daughter, Karla (Marcus) Beckmeier of Freeport; seven grandchildren, Jacqueline, Daniel, Mercedes, Noel, Kristen, Bradley, and Raice; and one great-grandchild, Tai Andrew.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Merle Potter; parents, Melvin and Mary Swartzendruber; and sister, Kathleen Kilker.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 31, at the First Church of the Nazarene, with Rev. John W. Hollis officiating. Interment will be at Oakland Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 30, at the church.
A memorial fund has been established in her memory.
